Frequently asked questions
- 01Chiropractic is a licensed healthcare profession that focuses on the understanding that the body has a natural ability to regulate and support its own health. These important functions are guided by the communication through the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and the network of nerves throughout the body. When our spine is restricted or stiff, it affects the nervous system's ability to communicate and impact on how our body operates, functions and heals. Chiropractic care supports your nervous system through gentle, specific hands-on techniques, allowing your body to function the way it was designed to. When communication within the body is clear and the nervous system is healthy, you can better adapt to daily stress and maintain long-term wellbeing.
- 02Most adjustments feel relieving, not painful. You may feel slight pressure during the adjustment. Some people experience mild soreness afterward, similar to how you might feel after exercise. This is normal and usually settles quickly as your body adjusts. Clicking and popping sounds are completely normal. The sound simply comes from the release of pressure within the joint and is a natural part of the treatment process. As your joints move, small gas bubbles can build up within the joint space. During a chiropractic adjustment, these gases are released, which creates the familiar popping sound — similar to when you click your knuckles or stretch your back. In some cases, an adjustment may not produce any sound at all. This is perfectly normal and does not mean the treatment was unsuccessful. If you feel worried or anxious, let your chiropractor know. We use a variety of gentle techniques to ensure your comfort during care.
- 03Chiropractic adjustments can often bring immediate relief, but long-term stability takes consistency. Your body may naturally fall back into old patterns at first, just like how exercise needs to be done regularly to keep your body strong. With ongoing care, improvements are more likely to last and support better long-term stability. Your chiropractor may also recommend specific exercises suited to you and guide you on avoiding habits that could slow your progress.
- 04Yes. Chiropractic care is generally safe during pregnancy when provided by a chiropractor trained in prenatal techniques which utilises the Webster Technique. As pregnancy progresses especially during the third trimester, natural weight gain and postural changes can place extra pressure on the lower back and pelvis, often leading to discomfort. Some mothers may also experience sciatica, pelvic pain, or pubic discomfort as their body adapts. To facilitate the labour process our body releases a hormone called relaxin that softens the pelvic ligament and this can cause extra instability in your pelvic region which can lead to more discomfort.
- 05Webster Technique is a gentle, specific chiropractic analysis and adjustments which focuses on improving pelvic balance and reducing tension in surrounding muscles and ligaments. This helps to support better movement and creates more optimal space for the baby to move freely and grow throughout pregnancy. The Webster Technique helps pregnant mothers manage symptoms during pregnancy, including: • Frequent Urination • Sleeping Difficulty & Tossing/ Turning • Pubic and Pelvic pain • Lower Back Pain • Discomfort during daily activities • Rib Pain • Shortness of Breath
- 06The birth process can be physically demanding for both mother and baby. As a baby moves through the birth canal, pressure and twisting forces may place stress on the spine and skull. Gentle paediatric chiropractic care aims to support healthy spinal alignment and nervous system function, helping babies adapt, thrive and maintain proper alignment as they develop. Early support can reduce compensatory patterns and promote better movement, resilience, and overall wellbeing as they grow. Newborn babies have very soft skull bones, which allows their head to gently change shape. However, if a baby tends to sleep with their head in the same position for long periods, feeds mostly on one side, or experiences neck tightness (torticollis), the head shape may gradually change. Early assessment can help identify any underlying tension or movement restrictions that may be contributing to these changes. Having your child checked early allows for gentle support and guidance during this important stage of growth and development.
- 07Every birth experience is different, and sometimes the journey can leave babies with a little tightness or tension in their neck, jaw, or shoulders — whether the birth was long, fast, assisted or via caesarean section. This tension may make latching and feeding more challenging which can be frustrating and uncomfortable for both baby and mum. Paediatric chiropractic care aims to help relieve this tension, helping baby feed more comfortably and supporting a calmer, more enjoyable breastfeeding experience.
- 08Chiropractic care for babies and children is gentle, safe, non-invasive and drug-free. Techniques are carefully adapted for babies, often using light fingertip pressure (similar to checking the ripeness of an avocado) — or specialised low-force methods. Some studies have shown chiropractic care for babies and children can help support healthy growth, improve sleep, boost immunity, better digestive system and ease common issues like colic, ear infections, or feeding difficulties. Early awareness and timely care are important, as they may help support your baby’s development and overall wellbeing during key milestones. What we can help • Sleeping issues • Difficulty turning the neck or head • Flat head or asymmetry head shape • Dislike tummy time session • Breastfeeding issues (trouble latching- uncoordinated sucking ability) • Unsettled and excessively crying baby
